Popular Nigerian comedian and skit maker Samuel Animashaun Perry, widely known as Broda Shaggi, has opened up about a frightening experience that nearly cost him his life, revealing how a stray bullet struck him while he was returning from a work assignment.
The entertainer, known for his hilarious comedy skits and energetic performances, shared the emotional story months after the incident, describing the ordeal as one of the darkest moments of his life.
In an interview published on his YouTube channel on Wednesday, October 21, 2026, Shaggi recounted how what started as an ordinary working day suddenly turned into a fight for survival.
How the Incident Happened
According to the comedian, the incident occurred on March 9, 2026, after he and his team had completed a brand activation outing and finished filming.
As they travelled around the Sango-Ota bridge area, traffic brought their movement to a standstill. It was during this period that the unexpected shooting occurred.
Shaggi explained that he initially heard a loud bang before experiencing a frightening loss of hearing. Although he could see people around him talking, he could not hear their voices.
When he touched his hip and noticed blood, he realised that he had been hit by a stray bullet.
The situation quickly deteriorated, and he lost consciousness shortly afterwards.
Recalling the terrifying moment, the comedian explained that his only concern was making it out alive. He said fear overwhelmed him as he was rushed to seek medical attention.
Rushed Between Hospitals for Treatment
Shaggi revealed that he was initially taken to a hospital in the Alakuko area of Lagos. However, medical personnel reportedly determined that the facility did not have sufficient equipment to handle his condition, prompting his transfer to another hospital.
The comedian described how medical workers at the first facility attempted to cut through his clothes to identify the bullet wound.
He was eventually taken to a medical facility in Ikeja, where he received emergency treatment.
According to his account, the medical team at the second hospital acted quickly and moved him into the emergency room.
Although the experience left him frightened, he said he gradually became more hopeful that he would survive.
Months in Hospital and Fear of Losing His Career
Beyond the physical pain, Shaggi disclosed that the incident also took a heavy emotional toll on him.
He said he spent months in the hospital and struggled with the inability to move his leg. During his recovery, he was uncertain whether he would ever return to making comedy skits and entertaining his fans.
Watching other comedians continue their work on social media reportedly became an emotional experience for him.
Shaggi revealed that he sometimes burst into tears when he saw his colleagues posting new skits because he feared he might never be able to perform again.

For an entertainer whose career revolves around creativity, movement and connecting with audiences, the uncertainty surrounding his recovery was particularly difficult.
